Solving Irrigation Upgrades with Limited Power Availability
The Challenge
A municipal sports field required an irrigation pump upgrade to improve performance and reliability, but power limitations created a major obstacle:
- The electrical service was shared with other facility loads
- Most of the available amperage was already in use
- Increasing breaker size or upgrading electrical infrastructure wasn’t practical
Typical solutions would have required costly electrical upgrades just to support a larger system.
The Solution
Sego Canada engineered a system that delivered higher performance without increasing power demand by leveraging Phase Technologies’ advanced motor control capabilities.
Phase Technologies VFD
Designed to operate on a smaller breaker size than conventional drives, allowing installations in power-constrained environments where other manufacturers’ solutions won’t fit
5HP Berkeley B Series Centrifugal Pump
Provided the necessary boost in irrigation performance while pairing efficiently with the VFD
The Result
No electrical upgrades required
Expanded system capability within existing service limits
Improved irrigation performance and reliability
Reduced overall project cost and complexity
Why Sego Canada
Sego Canada brings more than product supply, we provide application-driven solutions:
Expertise in pump and motor system integration
Ability to solve real-world constraints like power limitations
Focus on practical, cost-effective outcomes, not just specifications
Why Phase Technologies
Phase Technologies makes projects possible where others fall short:
Operates equipment on lower inrush current and smaller breakers
Ideal for retrofit and power-restricted installations
Enables performance upgrades without infrastructure expansion
When electrical capacity is limited, the right combination of expertise and technology matters.
By pairing Sego Canada’s system knowledge with Phase Technologies’ innovative VFD design, this project achieved a full irrigation upgrade, without touching the existing electrical service.
The right solution starts with the right conversation.
